Community Car Service
Our volunteers kindly use their own vehicles to provide journeys for those in need. The cost is 45p per mile, calculated from the volunteer’s home. We do our best to match you with the nearest available driver to help keep costs as low as possible.
Drivers are happy to wait for up to 1 hour for shopping trips or appointments, and up to 2 hours for hospital visits.
This service is available to anyone who does not have access to a private vehicle or is unable to use public transport.
Fares are paid directly to the volunteer driver.
To use this service, you must be a registered member. Membership costs £20 per year or £4 per month.

In January, we had to refuse 12 different bookings because of the lack of drivers, soaring to 20 in February. This is either because there are no drivers in that person's area, our drivers are already on journeys, or they can't be in two places at once. These journeys include hospital trips, going to the doctors, going to support groups, and simply taking someone to the supermarket for 30 minutes to get their groceries. If you have a couple of hours a week to spare helping take people in your car or ours, please get in touch. When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it, or it's been deleted.
